Discovering the Kingdom NOW

SENIOR ADULT MINISTRY

In addition to the basic purpose of Temple Baptist Church, there are two other specific purposes identified for the Senior Adult Ministry.  One is to provide, to the extent possible, opportunities for every senior to become involved in the total purpose of Temple Baptist Church.  The second is to see to it that no senior is left out or left behind in this endeavor.  One of my fondest memories as a child is the memory of my “place at the table.”  Each of us had our own personal seat.  We did not have much in worldly treasure, but we each knew we belonged and were loved!  As we grew older, we discovered other “places at the table”:  Sunday School, BTU, Choir, and RA and GA Programs.  As members grow older, some are often prone to lose their concept of their “place at the table” within their church family.  This must not be!  There is still much to be done and many tables to be served.  Within the Senior Adult Ministry, there are opportunities for worship, fellowship, discipleship, ministry and outreach.  Our goal is to involve all seniors and to afford each of them an opportunity to discover their place (or places) at the table.  What about you?  Are you one of those seniors who might feel that they have lost their “place?”  If so, won’t you consider becoming a part of our wonderful group of God’s pro-active children?  Together, we can both discover and recover our place at the table!

 Meetings and Activities
The Senior Adults meet on the first Monday of each month at 1:00 p.m.  At these meetings, we enjoy hymns of praise, a period of devotion, interesting speakers on topics of interest to seniors, mission activities, and wonderful fellowship (on occasion we also have food!!).  In addition to our monthly meetings, we also plan and schedule special meetings, activities and trips to exciting places.  Effort is made to have at least one special activity each month in addition to the regular meeting.  If there is something seniors enjoy doing as much as eating, it is fellowship and going!  Strong effort is made to accommodate these great needs!!!  Won’t you join us?

 Love 'N Action
Our Bible Fellowship Care Group Ministry does a wonderful job of ministering to our brothers and sisters in Christ on a regular basis.  Often, however, those who experience long periods of confinement whether in care facilities or at home, seem to “fall through the cracks” as their condition continues over a period of time.  Remembering the words of the Apostle John, to be “doers of the Word and not hearers only,”  we have undertaken a ministry especially for our Senior Adult Shut-ins called Love ‘N Action.  With this ministry, using volunteers from our Bible Fellowship Groups, each shut-in is visited on a weekly basis by at least one or two persons.  Some expression of love is taken to each shut-in each month.  This ministry has been one of the most rewarding things we do.  Won’t you consider being a part of this great ministry of love?  The opportunities for blessing are endless!  You will discover that it is truly “more blessed to give than to receive.”

 Senior Adult Choir
Do you enjoy singing hymns of praise, or better still, just “making a joyful noise?”  If so, our Senior Adult Choir meets each Monday afternoon from 1:00 to 2:00 in the church sanctuary.  We would love to have you join us.  Our Senior Choir is open to all Seniors ages 55 and older (however, as to age… we practice a “don’t ask-don’t tell” policy!  We only ask that you be young at heart.)  If you have that kind of spirit and want to praise God with us we hope to see you. The Senior Choir meets every Monday at 1:00 P.M. except the first Monday of the month when the Regular Monthly Senior Meeting is scheduled.
